Loch Leven Community Campus could become the home for an ambitious Aerospace Discovery Centre in Kinross.
Aerospace Kinross has been consulting the public on plans for the development after disclosing that Perth and Kinross Council has agreed in principle to lease a plot of land at the Campus for the state-of-the-art facility.
The proposed location for the centre is to the right of the current car parking spaces at the Campus, at the lowest end, closest to the existing road access.
Aero Space Scientific Educational Trust (ASSET), which is leading on the project, says the exciting development will bring ‘far reaching economic benefits’ to Kinross and surrounding areas.
The building plans include a Cafeteria and Viewing Gallery within a 2-Storey Central Core Space, an Exhibition Space, Fixed Learning Spaces and a centrepiece full-domed Planetarium (10m wide) which could host up to 80 people for shows and events.
ASSET representatives aim to create a ‘place of learning and engagement’ which is accessible to all and will immerse audiences in astronomy, space exploration, film and music.
Importantly, it will also be an inspiring way to engage school pupils in science, technology, engineering and maths, potentially leading to future aerospace or similar careers.
Should it come to fruition at the Campus site, project leaders believe it will attract ‘stargazers, scientists, pilots and pioneers’, as well as the interested public.
Part of Aero Space Kinross’ mission is to create a must-visit permanent venue, with a function and event space, which will attract 50 000 visitors per year, creating circa 25 jobs.
